Fake tan, fake hair, Real friends. <3
Had the good fortune of working with my friend Dano Cerny + his production company Hyperballad earlier in the year on the Starshell 'Birthday Girl' video. Dano and I met when he directed me in Love, Sex, Violence Etc at the Whitefire Theatre in 2009, a play that his incredible mother Helena Weltman penned and his father, Pavel Cerny, produced. It was an absurd family affair, and thankfully Dano and I hit it off right away. I loved working on that play!
We've kept in touch since, with Dano incorporating me into video projects when he can. For the Starshell vid, fitting in meant getting a spray tan and some serious extensions in my hair, slipping away to Vegas in a pass-van-ride-from-hell, but ya know, we all do strange things for a chance to perform.
Hyperballad released their updated reel this week and as Dano joked, I practically star in the piece. Perhaps most humorously though, I can hardly recognize myself in it. Dano sees in me characters and energy I am not conscious of, which is fortuitous considering his chosen profession - and lucky for me as an actor, to have such an amazing fan and friend in him. He pushes me outside of my comfort zone, confidently pulling performances which surprise even myself, and we have so much fart*ng fun while we're at it. Dano also happens to like my music, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed we will collab on a music video of my own one of these days :)
I'm incredibly impressed with the caliber of work he and his directing partner, Marielle Tepper, have been popping out consistently + encourage anyone curious enough to read this to continue clicking and check out their reel here + website here (don't miss their photography, it's shocking and funny and beautiful). Keep an eye on these two! Oh and spread the love and Like em on FB, Follow them, too.
