Welcome to week 13 of my weekly photo series Weird Looks Wednesday! This super soft T is from my friend David Chung's store in Whittier - Local Fixture. They hosted a fundraising event for Laughter for a Change before the holidays last winter and I picked up a bunch of cute, one-of-a-kind items for presents that I just love. Check them out here!

These pants make me feel like I'm on The Sopranos and I've always wanted to be an Italian American so that's cool. Velour on Velour FOR LIFE!
My best friend (and sometimes stylist) Teresa Calabrese said that I should start a fashion blog about my unique personal fashion sense, so I did. Welcome to Weird Looks Weds #11, my weekly photo essay for 2015.
Graduated from Musical Improv 301 this week! The class, hosted at The Clubhouse, finished off with a 30 minute set during The Coconut Club, a bi-weekly musical improv show at the venue, where we improvised "Hip-Hop: The Musical!"
It has been so fun to grow with my classmates over the past two years and get extra time to focus on song structure, storytelling, and capital-M "Musical" performance outside of my work with Robot Teammate and Sumeau. Teacher Tara Copeland came highly recommended by my fave instructor at UCB, Jess Eason, and offers several levels of musical improv instruction here! Been improvising at least five days a week between class, Robot, and Laughter for a Change jams (where we've been playing with a reallllly fun new form and a new outreach program is bubbling!) which has been an excellent counterpart to revising drafts and songwriting for TIMEHEART. Sad for this class to be ending, but I'm excited to focus on my next performance goal - playing guitar while performing musical improv! More on that soon.... - k@ When Teresa dared me to start a fashion blog, I had no idea how many stories would emerge. Ten weeks in, I recognize that nearly every garment I own has a history, memories of a person or a time, and that when I 'compose' an outfit, I'm fusing the stories together to create an attitude or story for a new day. My clothing is an expression of where I've been as much as where I'm going, and it has been a pleasure to rediscover my subconscious narratives each week.

This week I went with my warm fave comfy look - fashionable mime. My only 'official' mime role was in a production of "Stations of the Cross" playing the role of Jesus. They only let me do it at the evening and early morning shows, a boy had to play Jesus for the all school mass performance :P Now I do plenty of miming as an improviser, and I am not bitter. Plus, I learned how to be really light so people could lift me and carry me when playing Jesus, which has been a very handy skill!! Thanks for reading - the caption tells the story of the clothes! Love love love! My best friend (and sometimes stylist) Teresa Calabrese said that I should start a fashion blog about my unique personal fashion sense, so I did. This look came about after I lent a few black dresses to my dear friend Katie Skelton for a film role she was playing. She returned my dresses and then some, so I figured I'd try some of the others' on for style. This one is so sexy and comfortable, and when paired with this great infinity scarf my BFF Ashley gave me for XMas this year, just warm/conservative enough to wear to work. The dress ended up being Lauren Morrison's - she saw it on my blog and soon it will be back in its' rightful owners' home :) I'm always curious what people wear to auditions when a specific type is asked for, so I thought I'd share some of what I chose. For this look, I needed to "think Swiss Miss" and be able to sing, so I braided my hair and wore this very pretty dress Miss Laura Bean recently gave to me. I love the uneven hem (it cinches up on the left side) - and I got a callback for tomorrow! So I guess it was a good look :)
Stay weird, folks! I got the best fashion compliment ever today when a client at EastWest said I looked like I could be from Japan. I could die happy. Instead, I will dance by this palm tree and tell you about my outfit!
#WEIRDLOOKSWEDS Went out for a serious night of theatre (There Is a Happiness That Morning Is @ Sacred Fools) and then a serious dance party (Funky Sole @ The Echo) and thus needed a seriously rad outfit to transition through the evening. My solution: cats-in-space leggings, a sequined Foley and Corinna frock, and my grandma's costume jewelry.
I'd like to give a special shout out to Amanda for donating the top to my blog at Circle last week! I couldn't wait to wear this garment, thank you! Go see some beautiful theatre: http://www.sacredfools.org/onlineboxoffice/ Hit up LA's best dance party: http://www.theecho.com/event/446441-funky-sole-los-angeles/ ...and let me know what you wear! |
