HEY MAN DONT MAKE FUN OF MY ART SHIRT from my friend David Chung's awesome store, LOCAL FIXTURE; Forever 21 jean shorts; Teal jellies from TOP SHOP; hamburger and french fries earrings - hand-me-down from my ma!
Welcome to week 13 of my weekly photo series Weird Looks Wednesday! This super soft T is from my friend David Chung's store in Whittier - Local Fixture. They hosted a fundraising event for Laughter for a Change before the holidays last winter and I picked up a bunch of cute, one-of-a-kind items for presents that I just love. Check them out here!

L to R: David Kerns, Me, Crystal Franceschini, Courtney Coleman, Rian Kountz
Graduated from Musical Improv 301 this week! The class, hosted at The Clubhouse, finished off with a 30 minute set during The Coconut Club, a bi-weekly musical improv show at the venue, where we improvised "Hip-Hop: The Musical!"

It has been so fun to grow with my classmates over the past two years and get extra time to focus on song structure, storytelling, and capital-M "Musical" performance outside of my work with Robot Teammate and Sumeau. Teacher Tara Copeland came highly recommended by my fave instructor at UCB, Jess Eason, and offers several levels of musical improv instruction here!

Been improvising at least five days a week between class, Robot, and Laughter for a Change jams (where we've been playing with a reallllly fun new form and a new outreach program is bubbling!) which has been an excellent counterpart to revising drafts and songwriting for TIMEHEART. Sad for this class to be ending, but I'm excited to focus on my next performance goal - playing guitar while performing musical improv! More on that soon....

A casual, badass shot from one of the L4C curriculum video shoots (Keong Sim, Ruth Silveira, Chance Cooley y yo)
This week, the improv-outreach non profit I work with, Laughter for a Change, announced that we're finally ready to roll out our improv curriculum videos! This means that anyone, anywhere in the world can watch our videos and learn simple improv games to try out at home, work, or within their own organizations.

The curriculum was shot in a warehouse south of LA over a series of weekends over the past year or so, and features some of the games L4C's Comedy Mentors use in our outreach programs for Warming Up, Team Building, and Storytelling. We've always been interested in encouraging people to experience the transformative power of play, and have had a great deal of success leading these games IRL, so the videos are a natural extension of L4C's mission.

My mentor and L4C Executive Director, Ed Greenberg, is also making himself available each week on Skype to answer any questions viewers may have about the games or how to implement them into their existing work, which is super rad. He is an incredible improviser and is always reflecting on improv on his blog, so be sure to check him out there.

I'm really excited to see the response to the videos, as we have already connected with people who run their own non-profits from as far away as Ghana and are looking for new ways to build community and connect. I'm sure we are going to learn a LOT from the feedback we receive.

Connect with L4C on Facebook, Twitter, or on our website here!
